James Halbrook specializes in repairing band instruments, primarily woodwinds and brass instruments. He has more than 40 years of experience and is a charter member of the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT).

James Halbrook grew up in Pine Bluff, AR., attended and graduated from Arkansas State University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 1976.

James has been a charter member of the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT) in good standing since 1977. He has attended NAPBIRT annual conventions and seminars and earned 52.3 units of Continuing Education in the repair field. James opened his own repair shop in Jonesboro in 1998. 

James has experience working on all band instruments, primarily woodwinds and brass instruments. He makes custom tools and various obsolete parts for instruments when needed.

Frequently, James does tenon replacement and crack pinning on woodwinds and dent removal on brass instruments. He play-tests every instrument before returning it to his customers.

James does warranty work for AMRO Music in Memphis and Shivelbine Music in Cape Girardeau.

James and Nancy (Robbins) Halbrook have been married 44 years and have two fur babies, Oscar and Carly.  Nancy also attended Arkansas State University, earning a Master of Music Education Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Nancy played bassoon in the Northeast Arkansas Symphony when it first began. Nancy retired from band directing in 1983 and accounting in 2019.
